Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach (1714-1788) was a renowned German composer and musician of the classical era. He was born in Weimar, Germany, and was the second surviving son of Johann Sebastian Bach, one of the most influential composers of the Baroque period. Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach is often referred to as C.P.E. Bach to distinguish him from his father. C.P.E. Bach played a significant role in the transition from the Baroque to the Classical period in music.
